Airport
The security of water supply is one of the key criteria a supplier has to demonstrate within this sector. Veolia Water has a long term “Water Partnership” Framework Agreement with key airports within the UK such as Luton, Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow covering all their water activities on site.
VWIO has a wholly-owned subsidiary, Veolia Water Projects (VWP) dedicated to the Airport sector.
VWP covers all water and wastewater infrastructure including reticulation, metering systems, pumping stations, valves and all associated assets. VWP also provide operational support on the water networks and adequacy of supplies for fire fighting.
Drawing upon the expertise of the Veolia regulated companies, VWP can also manage site water supply pipeline projects including the planning, conception, construction, delivery and renewals.
By conducting an in-depth survey, VWP can significantly reduce the amount of unaccounted for water (leakage and unrecorded supplies) and therefore deliver worthwhile cost savings.
Environmentally, a major issue is de-icing agents used during periods of cold weather to stop the build-up of snow and ice on aircraft and runways. VWP operates the airport surface drainage and pollution control system to mitigate the impacts of these chemicals. This involves:
- Monitoring the segregated urban, runway and aircraft stand drainage flows
- Operation of the clean and dirty balancing ponds system
- Control of contaminated surface drainage discharge to the local treatment facilities.
